2021 and all thatMaryleboneMan
Well, Happy New Year to the select readership of this blog, my first for 2021 and of the third lockdown.
It’s a cold Marylebone
Marylebone is cold and overcast and largely closed, not even the Sales can get under way in Chiltern Street. I like the look of Cromford Leather – https://www.cromfordleather.co.uk/ and faithful stalwart, Shreeji News https://www.shreejinewsagents.com/ full of esoteric magazines for Marylebonians (is this correct?) and the wider London market.
Exercising to the architecture of Marylebone
Even when we are all vaccinated, the Wuhan virus will still be there, silently mutating with endless variants, waiting to pounce. Daily exercise allows us to look upwards at the varied architecture of the quarter as well as into the shop windows. The Glamorous Wife augmented her handbag collection over Christmas, but from Oscar de la Renta – https://www.oscardelarenta.com/ in Mount Street, not really Marylebone, and I almost had a nosebleed going there, but nevertheless, worthwhile: happy wife, happy life.
I miss Paul Rothe & Son for a proper cup of tea, as well as the only local deli that sells Mozart Kugeln – Mozart Balls to you and me – at Christmas. These should be available year round, especially now in January, when it is essential for civilised folk to access small, round sugar confections made of pistachio, marzipan and nougat and to resist the ascetic temptations of something called veganuary.
